“What am I? Man or woman or man or woman or man or woman or man or woman or… What am I? Which thing? Because to you gender is a thing. Your settler-colonial vision is one dimensional. You only see man Or woman. What am I? Man or woman or man or woman or man or woman or man or woman or… I am neither. I am both. I exist beyond your rudimentary philosophies. I am both…and more. My genitalia is not a limitation of gender expression. There is no binary. Only multiplicity.”
A performance art piece about disidentifying the gender binary as an act of sovereignty while navigating a settler-colonial gender dichotomy and culture. This was performed at the Poetry Is Busy show on January 25th 2019 for the IBA in Boston, MA.
